Protect Outdoor was born from a simple frustration.
Why does enjoying nature mean covering yourself in harsh, chemical-filled insect repellent?
Like many outdoor-loving families, we were constantly buying new bottles before every trip - camping, beach days, backyard evenings, holidays. The smell was overpowering. The ingredients didn’t feel right. And the waste kept piling up.
Eventually, we decided there had to be a better way.
One of the problems we couldn't ignore
Every trip meant another plastic bottle.
Used briefly. Then thrown away.
When we visited a plastic manufacturing facility and saw what tens of thousands of bottles actually looked like, it stopped us in our tracks.
We realised we couldn’t be part of that cycle.
So we set out to build something better - not just for our family, but for everyone who loves spending time outdoors.
What we created
Protect Outdoor is a natural insect repellent designed for real outdoor life.
It’s made for families, campers, travellers, beach-goers, fishermen, athletes and anyone who spends time outside.
We focused on creating a formula that:
- Uses 100% natural ingredients
- Smells clean and enjoyable
- Feels nourishing on skin
- Works in real outdoor environments
Our formula wasn’t created for shelves - it was created for real life. Over two years, we tested Protect at beaches, in bushland, on camping trips, at backyard BBQs on fishing adventures, and overseas travel.
If it didn’t work outside, it didn’t make the cut.
Why we chose refillable glass
From day one, sustainability had to be part of the solution.
Traditional insect repellents rely on single-use plastic packaging. We chose a refillable glass system designed to reduce long-term waste.
While small plastic components still exist, our system uses around 95% less plastic than many conventional products.
It’s not perfect, but it’s a better place to start. And we’re committed to improving.
